LYNDDIE ENGLAND COURT MARTIAL DATE SET
The Houston Chronicle reports:

A female soldier who could receive some of the most severe penalties resulting from the Abu Ghraib prison abuse scandal will face court-martial at Fort Hood on May 2, U.S. Army officials disclosed Thursday.

Pfc. Lynndie England, 22, became an iconic figure after being photographed holding an Iraqi detainee on a leash. She is accused of multiple offenses that carry penalties of up to 16 1/2 years in a military prison.

The West Virginia native is charged with conspiracy to abuse detainees in fall 2003, dereliction of duty, maltreatment of detainees and commission of indecent acts. Several other allegations have been dropped by military prosecutors.
